01 / The first cup is yours

Buenos días

Let the first cup belong to you. A familiar flavour, a little breakfast, a few minutes before the inbox.

What kind of morning is it?

Leave room for the morning you actually have. A familiar drink and something simple to eat are enough; the slower version is there when you have time to enjoy the making.

01

One familiar cup, one easy breakfast.

02

Make room for sifting, whisking and tasting.

Water for a more direct tea flavour; milk for a softer texture. Choose the cup you enjoy.

A small place to begin.

One cup you like

Choose a cup that is comfortable to hold. Add a heat-safe bowl and whisk only if you are making matcha.

One familiar breakfast

Toast, oats or something already in the fridge. Decide on the food before making the drink.

The tools, ready

Keep a clean spoon, your chosen cup and a closed pack together. Leave milk and other chilled ingredients in the fridge until needed.

Make this moment yours.

01 / Morning

In a hurry

A short morning / Minimal washing up

Make the first decision small. Use a drink you already know how to prepare, and give it a place beside breakfast before the rest of the day begins.

Have to hand

A cup, a spoon if needed, your usual drink and a ready-to-serve breakfast.

What to do

  1. Put breakfast on a plate or in a bowl first. Set out only the tools you will use, so there is less to clear away later.
  2. Prepare a single serving of your usual drink using its pack directions. If matcha would add too much work today, leave the whisking for another morning.
  3. Take your first few sips before opening the inbox. If the cup is travelling with you, use a suitable closed cup and check the lid before leaving.

Try it with

Toast with your usual topping, or oats prepared as you normally make them. A little yuzu preserve can be a flavour accent if you enjoy citrus; taste the preserve before adding extra sweetness.

02 / Morning

A slower start

An unhurried morning / A little more making

Let the preparation be part of breakfast. Keep the cup uncomplicated so you can notice how the tea tastes with water, then decide whether you prefer it with milk.

Have to hand

A matcha bowl, sieve, whisk, cup, your matcha and the liquid specified by the maker.

What to do

  1. Read the matcha directions and measure the recommended amount into a dry sieve above the bowl. Sift before adding liquid to break up clumps.
  2. Add water at the temperature recommended for your product and whisk. Taste the tea before adding milk or sweetness; change one thing at a time.
  3. Sit down with breakfast while the cup is ready to enjoy. Rinse the bowl and whisk after use and let the tools dry before putting them away.

Make a note

Remember the version you liked: water or milk, warm or iced, and how much sweetness. Next time, start with that choice instead of reinventing breakfast.

Let the pack lead the preparation.

Pure matcha and a sweetened latte blend are different products. Follow the directions for the one you have. Matcha contains caffeine; choose a familiar alternative when that is not what you want from your first cup.

Take a pause into the workday.

Keep the next cup simple: a refill, a natural stopping point and a few minutes away from the screen.
