05 / Let the day settle
夕方
Put the day's work aside. A favourite cup and a comfortable place can mark the change of pace.
A little time to yourself, or together?
The evening ritual starts by putting one part of the day away. Then choose what you want beside the cup: a few pages, a comfortable seat or someone to talk to.
A warm, gently sweet and peppery preparation to share, or make as one cup.
Set the scene with what you have.
A cleared surface
Put work papers and devices in their usual place. Leave enough room for the cup to sit securely.
A familiar drink
Choose a preparation you enjoy making. A red date and ginger cup is one option; water or another familiar drink works too.
Something beyond the screen
An open book, a conversation or simply a comfortable seat. Keep the choice small enough to feel inviting.
Make this moment yours.
01 / Evening
An evening to yourself
A quiet corner / No elaborate setup
Choose a visible ending to the workday before beginning the next part of the evening. The ritual can be as small as clearing the table and taking a seat elsewhere.
Have to hand
A favourite cup, your chosen drink and a book or another quiet activity you already enjoy.
What to do
- Write down anything that needs to wait until tomorrow, then close the notebook or computer. Put it away from the place where you will sit.
- Make one serving of a familiar drink. If trying red date and ginger, follow the preparation story below, remove the date pits and strain the finished drink as directed.
- Carry the cup to a stable surface and let it reach a comfortable temperature. Read a few pages or enjoy the room for a moment, with no need to finish a chapter.
Leave an easy ending
Rinse the cup after use and put the ingredients away. Keep tomorrow's preparation for the Before Bed guide so the evening can remain a moment of its own.
02 / Evening
A shared evening
Two or more cups / Agree on the flavour
Ask what everyone would enjoy before preparing a pot. Shared time does not need a special occasion or a complicated recipe.
Have to hand
Enough cups for the people sharing, a suitable serving pot and the ingredients for the agreed drink.
What to do
- Choose the drink together, checking the blend and individual preferences. Keep extra sweetness or flavourings separate when people enjoy different amounts.
- Prepare the recipe for the servings needed, using cookware intended for heating. Transfer carefully to a suitable serving pot; decorative glassware is not automatically safe for a hob.
- Set the cups within easy reach and pour when the drink is comfortable to serve. Begin with an ordinary question about the day and leave the screens aside if everyone would like that.
Make it easy to repeat
Remember the preparation everyone liked and the pot that worked well. Keeping the practical choices familiar leaves more space for the conversation next time.
Choose by the ingredients, not the promise.
This is a way to enjoy an evening, not a treatment or a promise of better sleep. Check the full blend when you prefer to avoid caffeine, and choose a drink you already know suits you.
Leave one small thing ready for tomorrow.
Set out the tools, put the ingredients away properly and make the first choice of the next morning a little easier.
